Profile

Dr Gary Davies is a Consultant Respiratory and Acute Medicine Physician and Hospital Medical Director at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital London. He is currently the National Clinical Advisor for Acute Medicine (London) as well as London Clinical Advisor for Same Day Emergency Care and Acute Frailty.  He was previously the Consultant Advisor in Medicine for the Royal Air Force for over 8 years.

Dr Davies undertook his medical training primarily in London, and in particular the Royal Brompton Hospital, before undertaking a Senior Registrar Fellowship in Respiratory and Intensive Care at The Alfred Hospital, Melbourne, Australia. He undertook an MD in to the pressure breathing system of the Typhoon (Eurofighter), between the National Heart and Lung Institute and RAF Centre of Aviation Medicine. He was also awarded the Diploma of Aviation Medicine as well as the European Air Group Advanced Aerospace Medicine Course.

In 2006 Dr Davies took up a consultant post at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital. In 2006 he was made the clinical lead for the Acute Medical Unit. He then went on to work as the Clinical Director in Medicine and Clinical Director for Acute Care across both the trust sites before taking up the post of Hospital Medical Director.

He has worked extensively within the hospital management and externally with NHS England, NHS Improvement, Healthcare for London, McKinsey, Dr Foster and Shaping a Healthier Future in NW London. Dr Davies was made a Fellow of The Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh and held the post of Deputy Director of Standards for the College.

Other contributions

Dr Davies was the Trust lead for the Covid-19 response as well as being involved with multiple Covid response projects across NW London and extensive research projects.

Dr Davies has deployed with the RAF to a number of overseas operations and conducted 79 aeromedical evacuations.

Dr Davies worked within the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh looking at overseas training and was part of the team that set up PACES examinations in Pakistan. He previously organised and chaired the Royal College of Physicians of London Acute Medicine Conference and undertaken a secondment to look at medical staffing models and overseas trainee training within London.

He runs a specialist aviation medicine respiratory service and general respiratory clinics at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital.
