Dr Ibrahim Al Bakir is a Consultant Luminal Gastroenterologist at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital. He qualified with first class honours from Oxford University in 2008, and completed his postgraduate training in the Oxford and Northwest London regions. During his specialist training, Dr Al Bakir was awarded a MRC fellowship to undertake a PhD at Barts Cancer Institute and St Mark’s Hospital on the identification of genetic signatures that stratify patients with inflammatory bowel disease by future colorectal cancer risk.

He is the clinical lead for upper GI physiology testing for reflux and oesophageal disorders at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, and secretary of the colorectal section of the British Society of Gastroenterology.

Other contributions

Dr Al Bakir has presented his work at international conferences, widely published peer reviewed papers and several book chapters. He has been appointed as a specialist committee member for multiple national GI projects, including NICE technology appraisals for novel endoscopic techniques, and NCEPOD national patient outcome assessment for patients with IBD.
