Joseph Norris

Consultant Urological Surgeon

BSc (Hons), MSc, PhD, BM BS, MRCS (Eng), FESSR, FRCS (Urol)

Overview

Mr Joseph Norris is a Consultant Urological Surgeon at Chelsea & Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. He qualified from Brighton & Sussex Medical School, with additional academic degrees from King’s College London (BSc) and University College London (MSc) in Anatomical & Surgical Sciences.

He received his initial urological training at Addenbrooke’s Hospital (on the Cambridge University Academic Foundation Programme) followed by formal rotation through the renowned London Urology Deanery (including, Imperial College, UCLH, St Georges) developing a broad-based surgical skillset, treating all urological conditions.

Mr Norris’ specialist interest is minimally invasive prostate surgery, treating both cancer and benign disease, aiming to deliver exemplary clinical outcomes with as minimal side-effects as possible. He undertook a prestigious integrated fellowship in prostate cancer focal therapy with Professor Hashim Ahmed at Imperial College London, and Mr Norris now offers focal prostate HIFU (high intensity focused ultrasound), cryotherapy, and NanoKnife treatment for prostate cancer (this is currently delivered at Charing Cross Hospital). For benign prostatic enlargement (BPH), Mr Norris offers a range of minimally invasive (MIST) techniques, including Greenlight laser prostatectomy, Rezum, UroLift, and Echolaser / TPLA prostate ablation.

Academia has been a longstanding passion for Mr Norris, and he has completed three prestigious fellowships in prostate cancer (Royal College of Surgeons of England, Medical Research Council, National Institute for Health Research) culminating in over 180 peer-reviewed publications, 130 national and international presentations, and a prize-winning PhD from UCL, under the mentorship of Professor Mark Emberton. Mr Norris is recognised internationally for his research, and was awarded a Fellowship from the European Society of Surgical Research (FESSR) for his contribution to surgical academia. He is regularly invited by the European Association of Urology to chair prostate cancer sessions at the annual congress each year. Lastly, he is highly dedicated to training the next generation of surgeons, supervising medical students, and those undertaking BSc, MSc and PhD degrees. He is also a formal clinical supervisor for urological surgeons in training, as part of the North West London rotation (London Urology Deanery).
