Mr Declan Collins is a Consultant in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, with specialist interests in Burns, Laser and Scar management.

He began his plastic surgery training in 2008 in London, specialising in reconstructive and burn surgery. His training included fellowships in Burn Surgery at The St Andrew’s Centre for Plastic Surgery and Burns, and an aesthetic fellowship at the King Edward VII Hospital, London. At the end of his training he obtained the FRCS (Plast) examination and joined the GMC Specialist Register for Plastic Surgery in 2015.

Declan completed a PhD in sepsis and wound healing in burned patients, and now holds posts as Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at Imperial College and the Clinical Lead for Research in the Burns Unit at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital. He leads an active research programme with involvement in international and national studies, and supervises undergraduate and post-graduate students each year.

More recently, Declan has started the Laser service for scar management at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, which has improved options for scar management. His main surgical interests are reconstructive plastic surgery and acute and planned burns care in adults and children. He works closely with the colorectal surgeons performing perineal reconstruction following bowel cancer surgery, and with dermatologists, providing surgery for hidradenitis suppurativa.

Aesthetically, he uses lasers for skin rejuvenation, treating wrinkles and dyschromia (colour changes) in conjunction with other non-surgical treatments such as Botox® and fillers. Declan uniquely combines an academic interest in new technologies in wound and scar management with surgical and non-surgical treatments. He is well positioned to provide the full spectrum of treatment options for effective and evidence-based scar management.
