Profile
Dr Karmarkar is a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at West Middlesex University Hospital, part of Chelsea and Westminster NHS Foundation Trust. With over 20 years of experience in urogynaecology and vaginal surgery, Dr Karmarkar offers a dedicated and personalized approach to women’s health.
Dr Karmarkar trained in India, earning an MBBS in 1993 before transitioning to the UK and becoming a member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in 2008. She completed advanced training in urogynaecology in London and was awarded MD (Res) by Imperial College London for her research on urinary incontinence and female urethral ultrasound. She was awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists for her contribution to this field.
Currently, Dr Karmarkar serves as the Lead Urogynaecologist and leads a service accredited by the British Society of Urogynaecology. She is actively involved in clinical governance and has become a Clinical Governance Committee member with the British Society of Urogynaecology. Her work includes developing treatment pathways for complex conditions like prolapse, urinary leakage, and other urogynaecological disorders, often collaborating across multidisciplinary teams. Additionally, she has served on the International Urogynaecological Consultation committee for the Management of Prolapse, where she contributed her expertise to improve standards in patient care.
Dr Karmarkar is also a published researcher, with key articles in international peer-reviewed journals on topics such as urethral structure assessment, bladder disorders, and obstetric anal sphincter injuries. This research contributes to her evidence-based, compassionate care, ensuring patients receive the best in both medical and surgical treatment options.
