Overview

Dr Ruth Byrne obtained her medical degree from King’s College London and completed specialist training in HIV and Genitourinary Medicine in London. She has worked as a Consultant Physician in HIV and Genitourinary Medicine at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital since 2021 and has served as Service Director for HIV since 2023. Her role spans both the clinical service and the Clinical Research Facility, and she has extensive experience across all phases of research studies in HIV, GUM, viral hepatitis, and liver disease.

Her clinical expertise includes all aspects of sexual and reproductive health, as well as the diagnosis and management of sexually transmitted infections in both men and women. She is a recognised expert in the diagnosis and management of syphilis. Dr Byrne also has substantial experience in managing HIV infection and antiretroviral therapy, with special interests in HIV and viral hepatitis co-infection, and cardiovascular and metabolic health in people living with HIV. She runs a specialist HIV Cardiology Clinic at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital.
