Dr Salwa Elmamoun is a consultant physician specialising in stroke medicine, geriatric medicine and general internal medicine.

She has a wealth of experience from across the UK having worked in the NHS for 16 years. She graduated from the University of Liverpool in 2008 and undertook her postgraduate training in the Merseyside/Cheshire region in core medicine and geriatric medicine. She subsequently went on to complete a stroke fellowship at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital and the renowned Walton Centre for Neurology and Neurosurgery. She attained her completion of training certificate in February 2018.

She was appointed as a substantive consultant stroke physician at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital (CWH) in 2019, following a yearlong post at Watford General Hospital. She is the current stroke clinical lead at CWH, delivering a strong multi-disciplinary team approach and excellent care for stroke patients in both an inpatient and outpatient setting. She is responsible for the care of the Chelsea Pensioner Veterans presenting with stroke or TIA, referred from the Royal Hospital Chelsea.

She was instrumental in developing the ‘Life After Stroke Programme’ at CWH during the covid-19 pandemic. This is where stroke survivors are provided with support post discharge, addressing their long term stroke recovery, self-management and stroke psychological needs of them and their families. A large grant from the CWH Charity was awarded to the stroke team following the success of the programme. Dr Elmamoun also collaborates with Chelsea Football Club Foundation team through their ‘Bridging the Blues’ Programme, allowing patients with TIA and mild stroke access to the benefits of the club’s physical and mental well-being initiatives.

Dr Elmamoun is concurrently an honorary stroke physician at Charing Cross Hospital, Imperial College London NHS Trust and has been since 2019, delivering hyper-acute stroke services in one of the UK’s leading thrombectomy centres. The centre provides emergency stroke care to patients across Northwest London and the surrounding regional areas.

She is an honorary lecturer for Imperial College London, delivering stroke education at an undergraduate and postgraduate level. She is actively involved in pioneering stroke research. She has presented in multiple national and international conferences, as well as published a number of articles in prominent medical journals.

She is fluent in both English and Arabic.
