Profile

Dr Paula Almeida is the Laboratory Director and Consultant Embryologist at The Fertility Centre (TFC), a post which she took up in 2000. She has been working in the field of infertility for over 25 years. She has a PhD in “Cytogenetic studies in human eggs and embryos” from King’s College Hospital London and has published in this field. She is a Diplomate of the Royal College of Pathologists (DipRCPath), and a National Assessor for the Association of Clinical Scientists (ACS). Previous to this she was a member of the Association of Clinical Embryologist (ACE) Training Committee and responsible for running ACE Postgraduate Certificate in Clinical Embryology.

Other contributions

Paula is also TFC’s Quality Manager; in this role she is responsible for ensuring that a high quality of service is provided through regular audits and surveys. She is also the Unit’s HFEA Person Responsible (governing body); in this role she has ultimate responsibility for ensuring that all licensed activities are conducted with proper regard for the regulatory framework that governs treatment and research involving gametes or embryos.
