Nutrition and Dietetics
Dietitians working in outpatient settings play a crucial role in promoting overall health and well-being through personalised nutrition counselling and education. They work one-on-one with clients to assess their nutritional needs, develop tailored meal plans, and provide guidance on dietary choices that align with specific health goals or medical conditions.
Whether it's helping individuals manage chronic diseases, achieve weight loss, or optimise their nutritional intake, dietitians empower their clients to make informed choices that support a healthier lifestyle. Their expertise extends to addressing dietary concerns, offering practical advice, and monitoring progress, ultimately contributing to improved long-term health outcomes.
The title ‘dietitian’ can only be used by appropriately trained professionals who have registered with the Health Professionals Council. Registered dietitians are uniquely qualified to translate scientific information about food into practical dietary advice. As well as providing impartial advice about nutrition and health, dietitians also advise about food-related problems and treat disease and ill health.
Dietitians treat a wide range of health conditions and dietary concerns including:
- Gastrointestinal disorders - IBS, IBD
- Weight management
- Diabetes
- Cardiovascular diseases
- Eating disorders
- Food allergies and sensitivities
- Paediatrics
- Food intolerance
- Pregnancy and prenatal nutrition
