Gastroenterology
Gastroenterologists prevent, diagnose and treat conditions affecting the gastrointestinal tract, comprising the oesophagus, stomach, small intestines and bowel, the pancreas and liver.
The most common conditions we see and treat include dyspepsia, peptic ulcer disease, gastro-intestinal malignancy/cancer, coeliac disease, liver disease, gall bladder disease, pancreatic disease, inflammatory bowel disease (including Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis), chronic diarrhoea and HIV disease. We also treat cystic fibrosis and food allergies.
State of the art endoscopy facilities are situated in JAG accredited endoscopy units at both sites with 4 rooms (including a dedicated screening room) at the Chelsea and Westminster site and 3 rooms at the West Middlesex site. The units provide gastroscopy, colonoscopy and capsule endoscopy. In addition Chelsea and Westminster Hospital performs interventional (highly specialised) procedures, such as endoscopic ultrasound and ERCP.
